Bonding

Chipped, cracked, discolored or misaligned teeth can have a significant impact on the appearance of your smile. Fortunately, bonding can be used as a restorative procedure to repair these types of dental issues without the need for veneers.

How Does Bonding Work?

The bonding process involves preparing the tooth surface by lightly etching it and applying a bonding liquid. After the liquid sets, a plastic resin is applied and sculpted into the desired shape by your dentist. Once the resin is set, it is trimmed, smoothed, and polished to match the natural appearance of your teeth.

Advantages and Considerations

The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit, making it a convenient and efficient option. Bonding can also significantly improve the appearance of a damaged tooth. However, it's important to keep in mind that the plastic resin used in bonding is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, so it is more likely to stain, chip or break over time. Typically, bonding lasts between three to five years before needing repair.
